PhD, LMHC

Pamela Yew Schwartz

My current clinical work focuses on end-of-life and bereavement work with Asian and Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and some Shanghainese) clients and families. I also work with the general population in grief and loss, individually and in groups (Loss of a Child, Parent Loss, Spousal Loss).

Prior to that I have over 30 years of inpatient, outpatient and forensic psychiatric experience, working with the severely and persistently ill patients, including trauma, substance abuse and with special interest in patients with depression and suicidality.

In my private practice, I see individuals and as appropriate, couples and families of all ages from young adults to the elderly, and children within the context of the family constellation. I am doing telehealth predominantly at this time and potentially may have in-person sessions in the future.

I am a founding member of the New York Coalition for Asian American Mental Health, an advocacy group providing culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services for Asian Americans.  I have published in the areas of mental health, depression and Chinese immigrants and have presented and taught classes in these areas as well as bereavement and end of life and Asian cultural issues relate to depression, neurasthenia, grief and loss.
